Easter is the most egg-citing – sorry, exciting – time of the Church’s year – do come to one or all of our services:
th April – Palm Sunday services at 8.00am and (with music) at 9.30am. Palm crosses for all! Then at 6.30pm we’ll host the lovely, consoling Fauré’s Requiem, sung by All Saints’ Choir and friends – don’t miss this.
th & 16th – At 12.00 noon we move through the Stations of the Cross, reflecting and praying.
th – At 11.00 Sing for Joy returns with special Easter songs to stir the memories ! At 2.30pm Teddies’ 10 Minutes (the group for people aged 0 to 5 and their carers) meets for their Easter songs and stories.
th – Maundy Thursday has a service at 7.30pm for the Lord’s Supper, with foot-washing for those who are happy with this, and ending in silence and dark with the altar stripped and bare. So all is ready at 9.00pm for the Watch of Prayer in the Lady Chapel, transformed earlier in the day into the Garden of Gethsemane. From 9.00pm to midnight people come for a time, short or long, of silent prayer, with intermittent Gospel readings.
th – Good Friday: for the three hours from 12.00 noon to 3.00pm we meet to recall Christ’s Crucifixion, first with a meditative service from 12.00-1.15pm, then from 1.30pm with a traditional sung service of readings, prayers and music – including the ‘Reproaches’, an entreaty of great power dating back to the 9th-century Latin ‘Improperia’.
th – Holy Saturday brings a short Service of Penitence at 9.00am.
st – Easter Day dawns and the church has been decked with gold and white flowers! At 6.00am the Easter light is kindled and brought into church for the most moving and lovely of services. (There’s breakfast afterwards in the Institute.) At 9.30am, an easier time for many families, everyone is welcomed to the Easter Celebration Eucharist. And yes, there are Easter eggs! Finally at 6.30pm comes the musical celebration of Festal Choral Evensong.
